The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) was established in 1959 with the main objective to promote and advance the science and profession of engineering of all disciplines in Malaysia. The IEM Academy Sdn Bhd (IEMASB) - as a supporting organisation to a professional body and learned society, will help to prepare Malaysian engineers for global benchmarking.

OBJECTIVES
- To provide competency and certification training programmes to professionals and sub-professionals in their respective field in order to enable them to be registered to practice in their specific areas of specialities.
- To organize or co-organize courses and Conferences in emerging technology.
EDUCATION SCOPE
- To enable the students to obtain qualifications such as diploma as well as postgraduate degrees to enhance their entry to the grade of occupation/specialism.
For example a SPM or STPM school leaver aspiring to work as a technician would require a recognized Technical Diploma to be qualified to register with the Technological Association of Malaysia (TAM). A holder of a non-recognized degree may need to top up their qualifications with a Master’s programme in order to be able to register with the Board of Engineers, Malaysia (BEM) as an Engineer. A technician / technologist may need topping up programme to be able to register as an Engineer with BEM.

- To be able to do this there exist a need to work with other organizations/institutions to obtain the required recognition such as UTAR (Off-campus courses).
VISION
To provide education and academician aspects as well as to promote engineering industry as a supporting organisation to a professional body and learned society, to prepare Malaysian engineers for global benchmarking of academic perspective.
MISSION
To undertake a holistic approach to the professional training and learning needs of engineers in Malaysia. Programmes and/or courses with certification and/or professional competency examination will be the main focus. A complete schedule for up-skilling of engineers will be developed.
