SYNOPSIS

Engineer's role has a significant contribution in protecting the public in terms of safety, health, and well-being. Workplace safety can be enhanced with the presence of qualified engineers in safety management. The qualified engineers can help organizations to manage safety risk arising from work activities, guide them with practical control measures to mitigate the risk of harm to their workers and the public; and, these engineers are expected to be familiar with OSHA 1994.
 

COURSE CONTENT

This 4-hour seminar will cover the following contents:
  1. Occupational safety and health (OSH) prospects
  2. Some current OSH practices and improvement opportunities
  3. The importance of OSH risk management, and its impacts on various businesses
  4. OSH Service opportunities for the engineering society
  5. Review of the valuable OSH related skills and knowledges
  6. An introduction to ASP and CSP certifications 

OBJECTIVES

By the end of this seminar, the participants will be able to:
  1. Begin to prepare themselves to face the known and anticipated OSH challenges
  2. Call out some current OSH practices and improvement needs
  3. Understand the importance of OSH risk management, and its impacts on various businesses

  6. Plan to become certified as an internationally recognized safety professional

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Ir. Francis Kee Hwee Ngiam
PE (Arkansas, California and Malaysia), CESCL, CPESC, CPSWQ, CPISM, LEED AP(BD+C), CSP, CCEP, MBA. 


Ir. Francis Ngiam's passion lies in People Development, Safety, Pollution Prevention, Customer/User Experience, and Partnership and Collaboration. He is an HRDF certified trainer and the co-founder of GPROTD Resources, a training and consulting company which offers professional training and development opportunities for individual and organizational growth and improvement. Ir. Francis Ngiam is a licensed civil engineer in Arkansas, California and Malaysia. He started practicing engineering in 1997. As a practicing engineer, he has also been involved in Green Infrastructure and Green Building Design and Construction. This experience has led him to become a Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design Accredited Professional with expertise in Building Design & Construction (LEED AP BD+C). In addition, Mr. Ngiam has earned his Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP) through his employment and professional development in Environmental Health and Safety Compliance. While holding two stormwater certifications (i.e., CPSWQ and CPISM) and two erosion and sediment control certifications (i.e., CPESC and CESCL), Mr. Ngiam is an approved trainer for the Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC) and Certified Professional in Storm Water Quality (CPSWQ) review courses. He is also an authorized trainer for the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) Outreach General Industry and Construction Industry training courses. He is in the process of becoming the approved trainer for the Certified Professional in Industrial Stormwater Management (CPISM) review course, and the State of Washington's Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (CESCL) course. Ir. Francis Ngiam has his Bachelor and Master degrees in Civil Engineering from Oklahoma State University. He also holds an MBA from Webster University. He is a member of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics (SCCE), Malaysia Association of Kansei Engineering (MAKE), Malaysian Stormwater Organisation (MSO) and The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM). Ir. Francis Ngiam is the International Liaison to Malaysia for EnviroCert International, Inc. (ECI), an international non-profit stormwater and environmental professional certification organization. He is also the Technical Committee Vice Chair and CPSWQ Program Committee Vice Chair for ECI. ECI administers seven Professional Certification Programs (i.e., CPESC, CPSWQ, CPISM, CPMSM, CESSWI, CPSWI and QSM) in the United States and over twenty countries (including Malaysia).

Ir. Tajul Ariffin Bin Mohamed Nori is a factory and machinery inspector (Malaysia law enforcement authority on Occupational Safety & Health Act and Factory & Machinery Act).  He graduated from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia with B. Eng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering, 2008 and M. Sc. (Mechanical Engineering), UTM 2017. He serves as a sub-committee member of Mechanical Engineering Technical Division, Institution of Engineers Malaysia, IEM since 2016.  He has extensive experience in Occupational Safety and Health, majoring in workplace accidents post event such as accident investigations, failure analysis and forensic engineering for more than ten years. Currently he is working with Forensic Engineering Division, Department of Occupational Safety and Health Department (DOSH), an agency under the Ministry of Human Resource, Malaysia. For over a decade, he gained his experience in various workplace accident investigation including the construction industry, demolition works, factories, power plant that involving fatality cases, dangerous occurrence cases, near miss incidents, engineering structures failure, heavy machinery accidents and work-related occupational disease. His contribution in various stages of Malaysia Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) law enforcement from OSH law development, law enforcements to safety and health promotions, ensuring the safety and health of the Malaysia’s workforce are safeguarded and upheld. On the law development and policy setting, Ir. Tajul plays an active role as a technical committee member on risk management regulations, Industrial code of practices as well as guidelines.  Ir. Tajul had also represented DOSH on construction activities risk assessment standard technical committee, developed by the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia. He is also a DOSH’s Prosecution officer and also had been called to testify in the court of law as an expert witness for a case involving occupational accident.  He is a very involved with various workshop, seminar, talks as well as training on OSH especially on Risk management and workplace incidents investigations to the enforcement authorities, safety and health institutions, safety practitioners, and various industrial workforce.

  • We wish to remind that all registration fees must be FULLY paid before commencement of the course. IEM Academy Sdn. Bhd. reserves the right to refuse entry for participant(s) who have not paid their registration fees to attend the course. THIS REQUIREMENT WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED.
  • Payment via CASH / CHEQUE / BANK-IN TRANSMISSION / BANK DRAFT / MONEY ORDER / POSTAL ORDER / LO / WALK -IN will be considered as NORMAL REGISTRATION
  • FULL PAYMENT must be settled before commencement of the course, otherwise participants will not be allowed to enter the hall. If a place is reserved and the intended participants fail to attend the course, the fee is to be settled in full.
  • Fee paid is not refundable. Registration fee includes lecture notes, refreshment.
  • IEM Academy Sdn Bhd reserves the right to cancel, alter, or change the program due to unforeseen circumstances. Every effort will be made to inform the registered participants of any changes. In view of the limited places available, intending participants are advised to send their registrations as early as possible so as to avoid disappointment.

​CANCELLATION POLICY

IEMASB reserves the right to postpone, reschedule, allocate or cancel the course. Full refund less 30% if cancellation is received in writing more than 7 days before the start of the event. No cancellation will be accepted prior to the date of the event. However, replacement or substitute may be made at any time with prior notification and substitute will be charged according to membership status.
